VCL's Summer Youth Project 2027

Following the success of We Will Rock You (2025) and Shrek The Musical (2026), VCL's Summer Youth Project returns in 2027 for the third consecutive year, featuring another amazing production for children and young people aged 9 to 18 in the Northampton area brought to life by our incredible team of professionally trained creatives.

GUYS & DOLLS JR.

The team here at VCL are so excited to introduce a new generation of young performers to this brilliant musical as part of our Summer Youth Project.

If you’re not familiar with Guys and Dolls, it recently had a hugely successful immersive London production at the Bridge Theatre (watch their trailer here) transporting audiences right into the streets of Manhattan and the bars of Havana. With shows such as The Great Gatsby bringing the glamour and style of the era back to the stage, Guys and Dolls Jr. will be a fantastic introduction to the music, characters and theatrical style of the period. This JR version has been specially adapted for younger performers, so there will be some differences from the full professional production.

As always it promises to be another brilliant summer of singing, dancing, reuniting with old friends, welcoming new ones, and creating a whole new production together!

KEY DETAILS

• Auditions: Exact date TBC (it will be a Sunday in late April 2027 and will cover a few hours so keep they day free for now

• Rehearsals Duration: Mon 2nd - Fri 13th August 2027 (week 1 at our rehearsal venue, week 2 at The Old Savoy, Deco Theatre)

• Performances: Saturday 14th August 2027

The audition date will be confirmed between August and September 2026, and an Audition Pack will be sent out to all bookers by January 2027 with details on what to expect on the day and what to prepare.

PROJECT FEES

There is NO FEE to take part in our audition day, but we do ask that you let us know well in advance if you're no longer able to make it so we can offer the space out to our waiting list.

The fee for the project will be £265 (£235 sibling) which includes a project t-shirt, a libretto (script), all the tuition, rehearsals, and performances for the 2 weeks. A deposit of £50 will be required on acceptance of place on the project (7-14 days after audition day) and then deducted from the fee total. All payments must be returned to VCL Productions by Thursday 1st July 2027. Once paid, all fees are non-refundable.

We are happy to be paid in instalments prior to the deadline and can discuss details with you individually. The fee does not include any transport, meals, or show tickets and we may ask you to assist with some basic items for costumes such as t-shirts, shoes, small props etc – hopefully things that you already have at home.

BURSARIES: VCL is committed to making our productions accessible to young performers of all backgrounds, and so to support local families who may struggle to cover the cost of the project, but would greatly benefit from participating, we have made a very limited number of full and partial bursaries available. If you feel you could benefit from receiving help from the available bursaries or HAF (funding pending), you can apply for funding when the place has been confirmed.
